Fall 2012
SLO # 2 Student will produce sentences and chunks of discourse in speech of 200-250 words on assigned topics and/or topics of the student’s own choosing. There were two sections of ESL 182 LS in the Fall of 2012. Each instructor evaluated SLO #2 at the end of the semester by having students record responses to several questions related to an audio text. The students recorded their responses using Voicethread. There were two identical Voicethreads, one for each section. The links to these completed Voicethreads, a Google Docs Teacher’s Score Sheet, a scoring rubric, and instructions on how to use the rubric to score the student responses were sent out to all the ESL Listening/ Speaking instructors, five of whom were adjunct instructors. Each L/S instructor listened to the Voicethreads and scored them on their own time by a given due date. The scores were totaled to determine a pass or not pass score for each student. There were 39 students who participated. 33 out of the 39 received a passing score for a total pass rate of 84%.

ESL Instructors Score Sheet and Rubric
Impact on Course
The high pass rate for each section indicates that this SLO is easily being met for the majority of the ESL 182 LS students. It appears that this SLO and course instructional methods are appropriate for this level of ESL students. No modifications seem necessary at this time.
Spring 2012
SLO # 3
Twenty-nine students completed the objective style test. Out of the twenty-nine students twenty-five successfully passed the test with a minimum score of it least
70%. Out of the four students who failed the test, two received scores in the 60%
range and two received scores 50% or lower.
SLO # 2
Twenty-nine students recorded their comments on the assessment VoiceThread.
Out of the twenty-nine students who recorded their comments twenty-five students were rated as
passing based on the rubric (see rubric posted) designed for ESL 182 LS through the collaborative efforts of the listening
and speaking instructors. Two were rated as just below passing, and two others were
rated as failing or not meeting the minimum proficiency.
